EDIT: I NO LONGER RECOMMEND ALTERNA PRODUCTS. PLEASE SEE THIS BLOG POST TO UNDERSTAND WHY.
This goes along with my last post, but deserves its own entry:
THIS STUFF IS THE BOMB. And I don’t use 90s clichés like that lightly.
I have crazy hair. It’s straight, curly, frizzy, and wavy, all at once. It’s also the ultimate hair oxymoron: fine and thick. What this means is that although most of the individual strands are baby fine (I do have some weird wiry ones in there too, just to keep it fresh), I have like 20 billion follicles, so there’s a ton of those baby fine strands on my head. Combine all this together and my hair is pretty difficult to manage.
There are an overwhelming amount of smoothing/anti-frizz/leave in conditioner products out there, and I have tried a LOT of them. The problem for me is that although my hair needs the moisture and the taming these products offer, the product basically ALSO needs to be as light as air so that my fine hair doesn’t look greasy. This is a difficult feat, but Alterna’s Bamboo Smooth Kendi Pure Treatment Oil does the job beautifully. Not crazy about the eye dropper applicator – I need about three droppers full for my luxurious mane – so I just pour it from the bottle into my hand. Although the bottle looks tiny, I have been using the same one for months, so don’t be fooled.
Also important to note is that Alterna makes another similar product in a spray bottle called Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist – NOT THE SAME! The dumb girl at the University Village Sephora told me they were the same thing in different packaging, but that is a LIE. The dry oil is very thin and my hair laughs at it. If you have fine hair and not a lot of it, that might be a better choice for you, but it didn’t do a damned thing for me. Needless to say, this product is available at Sephora.
I can’t say enough good things about this hair smoother.
