My skin is FREAKING out! The weather, the heat, stress, hormones – I have a red rash all around my nose and mouth that makes me look like I spent the night sucking face with Ronald McDonald. And maybe caught something.

I have been being super gentle with my skin – stopped using the Clarisonic, switched to Boscia skincare since a lot of it’s fragrance free, moisturizing like crazy, using Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel, and today went so far as to use Diorskin Nude BB Creme – and I don’t ever use foundation. The closest I come is Chantecaille’s Future Skin, which is lovely and quite helpful when my skin is normally uneven, but can’t even touch what I have going on right now. The Diorskin is an improvement but I really don’t like the one-dimensional look it gives my face. I just really hate foundation is the problem.

So I turn to you, dear readers (what are there, like six of you? Five?) for recommendations. I want a foundation to hide my shame. But I don’t want to look fake. But it needs to have at least medium coverage. But I would still like to look like I have pores. But not like I have a contagious disease. You see my problem.

Recommendations? Advice? Help? I welcome it.

First, maybe see your doctor or dermatologist.

Second, I am a huge fan of Urban Decay Naked. It has good coverage and it looks natural like real skin. Two pieces of advice: 1. Shake the bottle before use, for god’s sake. 2. Use a buffing brush to get the most blended look. Not necessary, but helpful.

I also like Tart’s Amazonian Clay for max coverage. You almost have to use a brush to blend this one or else it looks weird. I use this on bad skin days. It does feel like foundation for awhile but it does settle in after awhile. This is the best deal around because you get the brush for free:

And I also like the Bare Minerals pressed foundation, not the loose powder. I use this for more of a spot coverage, or in addition to my Naked when I’ve got something to cover. The biggest draw back is that if my skin is feeling dry, it doesn’t work.

Lastly, I highly suggest a primer before application of any foundation. I like Laura Mercier and Korres. I don’t like silicone based primers because they feel oily and I swear I can feel them sitting on my skin. People swear by Smashbox, but I can’t stand them because they are too silicone-y for my needs.

    Good luck.

Thanks for all the recs! As it works out, my doctor thinks I have Seborrheic dermatitis, so she wrote me a scrip. Praying it helps!
