It’s a Beautiful Day for a Contest!

9 Aug

Today, I won a prize from Nest, the home organization company here in Seattle who is attempting to help me get my life together as I move all our belongings from the house my husband has resided in for 20 years to the house we just finished remodeling WHILE I AM PREGNANT. (No, I’m not at all overwhelmed, why do you ask?!?)

Anyhow, Nest is awesome, and you should enter their contest, BUT you should also enter my contest!

I am thinking, I have some favorites. And I want to share them with you lovely people. So how about a giveaway a month till the baby comes and makes me give up doing everything I have time to do now? YES!

This month’s giveaway will be a little happy Caudalie gift set. I have been raving about Caudalie for months now, and I know I still have yet to write the blogs to back up my love, but I will, I WILL! In the meantime, how do you feel about THIS:

It’s a Caudalie travel kit! Included are mini bottles of:

-Vinosource Quenching Sorbet Creme
-Cleansing Water
-Nourishing Body Lotion
-Fleur de Vigne Shower Gel
-Gentle Conditioning Shampoo

I haven’t even had a chance to try all these products myself, but I can attest that the Cleansing Water is awesome, and the Sorbet Cream is totally divine (or de vine, get it? Since their products are made of grapes? See what I did there?)

ANYHOO, sign up for this fun little giveaway – you don’t have long to enter, as I am going to do the drawing for this one on the 31st – and then next month look to win another of Kate’s Favorite Things, before diapers take over my life.

ENTER THIS CONTEST HERE, NOW!: Caudalie Travel Set Giveaway!

xoxo

PS. If you enter and say you did things you didn’t do, I will know! Yes I will, and you will lose your entries. So don’t cheat!

Borghese Bagno Di Vita Body Soak

19 Jul

First let me tell you I traditionally HATE baths, for multiple reasons. One, I don’t like how fast the water cools down. Two, I don’t like the idea of sitting in a stew of my own dirt. And three, and this is the most important reason and may actually even be the parent reason that the other reasons just branch off of, I am bigger than normal bathtubs and it’s both uncomfortable and disheartening for me to try to sit in one. Enter our new, custom-designed bathroom WITH Victorian-style slipper tub, and cue the Hallelujah chorus. FINALLY a bathtub that I feel normal in. Between the fact that I have a gorgeous bathtub that fits my gorgeous body, and the fact that I am now subjected to all sorts of pregnancy aches and pains, I have actually been on the lookout for bath products that a) don’t contain sulfates, and b) don’t make me feel all dry. Enter Borghese Bagno Di Vita Body Soak.

I got two little packets of Borghese Bagno Di Vita Body Soak (in French underneath that says Oil for the Bath, which is kind of a lie, because it’s not an oil at all but a powder/salt, but I digress) in my Birchbox last month. I love that they sent me two packets because sometimes it’s hard to tell if you really like something after only one shot. This is a direct quote from their packaging – you can’t make this stuff up:

Receive the luxurious skin treatment of hydrotherapy – a therapeutic soak in mineral waters – in the comfort of your own home. Mineral infused crystals transform your bath into an oasis of calm, blue waters while the uplifting scent of botanical oils soothes tense, tired muscles.

Okay, I guess SOMEBODY made that stuff up, but still. An oasis? Really?

In spite of the silly description, I have to say, I fully endorse this product! I dumped the packet into my bath and it turned it a pretty blue color. No bubbles, but that’s usually what sulfates do, so that was okay. Additionally, even though it’s a powder, it really did feel like an oil! I left the bath feeling soft, silky, and refreshed – NOT like I’d just been soaking in my own filth for half an hour. The smell is pleasant, herbal, and spa-y, and I actually didn’t even need to use the second packet to know I wanted more – I just went ahead and bought some. I used it again a couple nights ago with an equally pleasant result.

Nicely done, Borghese! Now work on that copy.

Birchbox

26 Jun

What do I love as much as product? Getting things in the mail. So when I heard about Birchbox, a subscription service where for $10 a month you get a box of product samples shipped to you, I yelled, “ALL IN!” I did not research. I did not waffle. I did not ask around. I SIGNED THE HECK UP.

I have been a Birchbox member now for six months. Some months have been unimpressive. Some months have been pretty cool. One month I even got a free, special bonus box (in addition to my regular monthly box), full of Vichy products. Quelle belle surprise! Until this month, only one product had hooked me, and it’s actually one I have since blogged about – Orofluido’s hair oil. I got a nice little tester of it that lasted me for a good week, really enjoyed it, and ended up buying stock in the company. Okay, not really, but I should, because I have bought it for myself twice since and recommended it both personally and in my blog. I also got another product I blogged about, the Miracle Skin Transformer, which I did REALLY like but found to be a little too expensive for the size you get.

Anyhow, I have gotten some other great stuff, but nothing to write home about, until June’s box. June’s box has not just an eyeliner, not just a lip stain, not just a Borghese bath soak… BUT ALL THREE! And some other crap too! Not just one packet of the Borghese bath soak, either, but TWO packets of it, so you can really decide if you like it before ordering.

Damn, Birchbox. You got me. I am hooked. And I can now endorse you fully, far and wide. If you can cut out two Starbucks lattes a month, you can afford a Birchbox subscription. And if you love product even half as much as I do, you can’t really afford not to.

Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Calming Creme

11 Apr

This is probably the most boring product I will ever recommend, but I use it every single evening, so it’s worth a mention!

Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Calming Creme is a thick, unscented moisturizer that I use nightly on my hands before bed. It softens and protects my hands without leaving behind a film, and the fact that it’s unscented makes me feel like I am using something designed less for the beauty realm than for the health realm. During the winter, when my skin gets especially dry, I’ll use it after showering over my whole body, and it definitely works better than my standard smell-good moisturizers at eliminating dry, flaky alligator skin.

I had a friend with sensitive skin visit last summer (shout out to Shari!), and I took her to my favorite mani pedi place in Seattle, Hoa Salon in Madison. The only complaint I have about Hoa is that I can’t be sure what’s in the lotions they use on you – it’s not a “spa” atmosphere where everything is organic (and thus ten times more expensive). I recommended to Shar that we bring my Eucerin for her, to ensure she didn’t have a bad reaction to Hoa’s lotion. (Incidentally, Hoa is always happy to use anything you bring – I actually bring my own lotion and Zoya nail polishes and they’re always extremely accommodating – love that place!) She had no bad reaction to the lotion, and quite liked how well it absorbed and the fact that it didn’t leave a fragrance behind.

At less than nine bucks for a tube that will last FOREVER, I suggest everyone picks up a tube or two of this for those times when you just want your skin to be moisturized without any scent. Well worth the money.

Spa Out Your Bathroom

1 Apr

It’s April 1st! Do you have spring fever yet? Longing to clean out and revamp? Want to take your bathroom from blah to blissful? Here’s a few fun items that will help make your bathroom more than just a place you have to visit a few times a day.

Aquis Microfiber Hair Turban – Start with the tippy top of your pretty noggin and get yourself a stay in place hair turban to soak up the water and keep your face ready for Queen Helene (you’ll meet her later).

Michel Design Works Large Bath Bar Soap in Peach Raspberry – One of my favorite soaps of all time, this bar from Michel not only smells divine but lasts forever. The fruity scent will make your entire bathroom smell wonderful, and you’ll be using it for quite some time.

Hydra Shower Burst Shower Bombs – My dear friend Erin gave me some of these for my birthday last year and I have been hooked ever since. Place one in your shower where it will be lightly hit with spray. It slowly disintegrates, filling your bathroom with a fresh, spa-like scent, even when the shower’s not on. For a truly spa-ctacular experience (see what I did there?), try their Spa Gift Set.

Vitabath Body Wash in Dreamy Pink Frosting – For a sulfate-free scrub, add a little Vitabath Body Wash to your shower pouf. I like Dreamy Pink Frosting, but that should come as no surprise to anyone who reads my blog regularly – I love those bakery-scented body products. For the less food motivated, this antioxidant-fortified body wash also comes in scents such as Nouveau Rose, Green Tea and Sage, and Beach Blossom.

Voluspa Floraison Six-Candle Gift Set – Sometimes the best gifts are the ones you give to yourself! Voluspa candles are my absolute favorites. (It used to be Illuminations, but the evil Yankee Candle monopoly forced them out of business.) Here’s an opportunity to try six of their scents and decide which you like best before you commit to one of their beautiful three-wick tins. Plus, one candle in a bathroom really isn’t enough; you need to have a couple on the tub, a couple on the window sill, and a couple on the sink to really achieve the spahhhhh vibe.

Bubalina Cool Cucumber Melon Body Butter Creme – Bubalina is eventually going to get an entire post dedicated to them, but they’re worth a mention here as well. Their organic, beautifully scented, super hydrating body butters are absolutely the bees knees, and the cucumber scent is just right to take you turn your bathroom into a spa. Smooth it all over to transport yourself to a more peaceful place where your skin is absolutely glowing.

CND Cucumber Heel Therapy – And don’t neglect those tootsies! This cream is so thick and smells so lovely that I’d like to use it everywhere, but I keep it on my feet where it belongs. Okay, and sometimes my hands if they’re feeling extra dry.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque – What spa day is complete without the classic creature from the black lagoon green mud mask? Queen Helene’s version is super affordable, smells minty delicious, and helps dry out all those pesky skin problems. Long live the Queen!

Fran Wilson Nourish My Eyes Cucumber Eye Pads – What do you need to go with your green mask and hair towel? Cucumber eye pads, of course, and these won’t spoil!

Natori Robe – Once you’re all clean, warm, and smelling good, you’ll need to wrap yourself up. And if you want to surround yourself in something truly decadent, invest in a Natori bathrobe. I have one that I received as a gift and not only is it soft, silky, and wonderful, my husband actually compliments me on how good it looks. This is a BATHROBE we’re talking about. The one I have doesn’t appear to be available anymore, but Amazon has a wide range of styles to choose from, and they’re all quite lovely.

Indulge yourself this spring, and turn your bathroom into your favorite room in the house!
